Author name: Marcus L. Havel, MS, RPh

Marcus L. Havel is a registered pharmacist with a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and more than a decade of frontline experience in community and retail pharmacy environments. His expertise lies in medication counseling, over-the-counter active ingredients, and patient-centered drug selection. At Active Ingredient Hub, Marcus focuses on how pharmaceutical ingredients behave outside the lab—how they interact with real patients, real conditions, and real-life constraints. His articles frequently explore ingredient efficacy, misuse risks, labeling transparency, and how formulation choices influence adherence and safety. Marcus is especially passionate about educating the public on common misconceptions around APIs, combination drugs, and “inactive” ingredients that aren’t always as inactive as they sound. His approachable writing style reflects thousands of hours spent answering patient questions at the pharmacy counter. Outside of pharmacy, Marcus enjoys home brewing (non-alcoholic experimental batches), woodworking, and long weekend hikes. He believes pharmacists are often the most accessible healthcare professionals—and that clear information saves more than just time.
